Position Overview
The Accounting Manager is a key member of the Finance team responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, payroll administration, and financial reporting. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant financials in alignment with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. The ideal candidate brings hands-on NetSuite experience, strong payroll management skills, and a passion for mission-driven work.
Key Responsibilities
- Own NetSuite GL operations: chart of accounts maintenance, journal entries, allocations, and period close management.
- Configure and maintain approvals/workflows (e.g., vendor bills, purchase orders, expense reports), and support integrations.
- Oversee daily accounting operations: AP/AR, cash management, bank/credit card reconciliations, fixed assets, and prepaid/deferrals.
- Manage the monthly close (including schedules and reconciliations), deliver timely financial statements, and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
- Maintain fund accounting and grant/restricted funds tracking; prepare allocations and release restrictions as appropriate.
- Support annual audit, 990 preparation, and compliance with grantor reporting requirements; maintain a robust documentation repository.
- Partner with program leaders on budget-to-actuals, variance analysis, and fiscal stewardship.
- Lead end-to-end biweekly/monthly payroll processing.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5-7+ years progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory/lead role.
- Hands-on NetSuite experience (GL, AP/AR, workflows, Saved Searches/Reports; SuiteAnalytics preferred).
- Payroll management experience, including payroll compliance, reconciliations, and GL posting.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit GAAP (FASB ASC 958), fund accounting, and audit readiness.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups), and comfort with modern financial systems.
